Transcend Information Inc. (Transcend), one of the world’s leading memory module manufacturers, today announced the introduction of its latest memory product: a low power DDR2-667 Fully-Buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM) designed for servers and workstations. Transcend has lowered its DDR2 FB-DIMM operating voltage from 1.8V down to 1.55V, which reduces actual memory power consumption by 20-30% -- especially significant for enterprise platforms such as application servers or embedded systems that employ many modules and require stable and reliable memory performance. Decreased voltage offers the benefits of lower temperatures, improved stability, and reduced operating costs. Moreover, the FB-DIMM is also equipped with a high-performance Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB) that acts as an intermediary between DRAM and the system bus, using an efficient serial-based uplink to communicate with the memory controller. The AMB also performs real-time intelligent error correction, which is essential for performing mission-critical or compute-intensive tasks, as it can greatly reduce the risk of computational errors, while at the same time increase overall system stability.

Transcend’s DDR2-667 FB-DIMM uses robust eight-layer PCBs that meet JEDEC（the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council）standards. Each 240-pin FB-DIMM is made of high-quality 128Mx8 DDR2 1.55V-rated DRAM chips that meet strict quality and performance standards and are manufactured using small Fine-Pitch Ball Grid Array (FBGA) packages to assure better thermal dissipation, electrical efficiency and reliable computing quality. Also included are high-quality heat sinks equipped with highly conductive thermal compound, giving Transcend’s DDR2-667 low power FB-DIMM superior heat diffusion characteristics that greatly increase reliability and help lower system temperatures.
