"The Vertex 3 series: Ruthlessly crushing the competition" (PurePC.pl)
Review:
Not long ago we tested the first Marvell controller based SATA III based SSD’s and today we took on a complete range of SandForce based SATA III SSD’s. To be more precise we tested the complete range of Vertex 3 (including MAX IOPS) series from OCZ to see how they compare to the competition.
The first benchmark that we used was AS-SSD. This benchmark is a worst case scenario for SandForce based SSD’s as it involves compressed data. However, as our results show, OCZ’s Vertex 3 series is still able to dominate the competition with the MAX IOPS model leading the chart with a sequential read speed of 507.6 MB/s.
In order to show the true potential of the OCZ SSD’s we used ATTO Disk Benchmark. The incompressible data that is used in this benchmark resulted is perfect for SandForce drives and with speeds of over 555 MB/s OCZ’s Vertex line up once again takes the lead.
Lastly we also used CrystalDiskMark. This program generates random data that is like the data of AS-SSD not easy to compress. However, the drives even managed to beat the competition when used in SATA II mode.
Once again OCZ has shown that the Vertex series has a lot of potential. The new third generation drives are the indisputable leaders in performance and ruthlessly crush the competition by rushing through the charts like a hurricane. Because of its enormous speed the Vertex 3 240 GB deserves our performance award and because of its great price/performance ratio we recommended the 120 GB Vertex 3.
